The karst springs of the marshy meadows and wetlands were depleted by mining activities by 1973; however, after mining ceased in the early 2000s, the springs began to flow again. The springs produce slightly carbonated water with a temperature of 20-22°C. This area is home to unique plant communities and wildlife.
